more than 1.27 million total vehicle sales in Latin America, Africa and
Middle East Region led by top-selling Chevrolet Corsa, Celta and Aveo

GM continues emerging markets leadership with 2008 market share growth in 14 of 26 markets

Record-setting sales performance in GM's
Latin America, Africa and Middle East and Asia Pacific regions, and a
third consecutive 2 million vehicles sales performance in Europe during
2008, helped General Motors sell more than 8.35 million vehicles
globally last year. GM's nearly 3 percent growth in both the Asia
Pacific and Latin America, Africa and Middle East regions partially
offset North America sales that declined 21 percent, and growing
pressure in Europe that resulted in 7 percent fewer sales. Compared
with 2007, GM's total sales were down 11 percent, reflecting continuing
global economic pressures that include tightening credit, falling
commodities prices and lack of GDP growth.
In
2008, GM sold 5.37 million vehicles outside the U.S., accounting for 64
percent of total global sales volume compared with 59 percent a year
ago.

In the fourth quarter of
2008, GM sales of 1.70 million vehicles were down 26 percent compared
with the same quarter a year ago. Most of that decline was reflected in
379,000 fewer vehicles sold in North America as the market yielded to a
crushing lack of consumer confidence, and tightened credit
requirements, in the United States.

GM Continues Growth in Emerging Markets

"GM's
2008 sales performance shows that we are continuing to take advantage
of new emerging market opportunities and are meeting customer needs
with fuel-efficient products that offer compelling design and great
value - such as the award-winning Opel/Vauxhall Insignia in Europe, the
Buick Excelle in China and the Corsa in Latin America," Jonathan
Browning, vice president, global sales, service and marketing, said
today. "We saw sales volume increases in the key four emerging markets
of Brazil (up 10 percent), Russia (up 30 percent), India (up 9
percent), and China (up 6 percent)."

"The
challenges in the global financial markets, including credit
tightening, the drop in commodity prices, and economic uncertainty
continue to negatively impact overall demand for new vehicles,"
Browning added. "For the total global industry, we saw about 3.5
million fewer vehicles sold in 2008 than the previous year."

With
these market challenges comes significant opportunity and GM is
well-positioned with new products either on showroom floors or on the
way in the near future.

Chevrolet sales in Asia Pacific
grew 14 percent in 2008 compared with a year ago. Chevrolet sales in
China (up 16 percent) and India (up 9 percent) powered much of this
growth. The Wuling brand continued strong growth in China with sales up
17 percent in 2008 compared with a year ago. The Buick channel is very
strong in China with the all-new Regal and soon-to-be-launched
LaCrosse. The Chevrolet Cruze and Cadillac SRX also will play important
roles in taking advantage of China growth in the months and years ahead.

In the Latin America, Africa and Middle East
region - a traditional Chevrolet stronghold - 2008 sales grew 3 percent
compared with 2007. Chevrolet accounted for nearly 90 percent of GM's
sales in the region and Brazil remains the second-largest volume market
for Chevrolet. Also, GMC, Cadillac and Saab showed impressive annual
percentage increases in their sales volume - up 24, 22 and 16 percent,
respectively, compared with a year ago. GM sales in the LAAM region
beat the expected industry performance, with more than 1.27 million
vehicles sold.

A large,
relatively young population with a low car-per-capita ratio, hold
promise for the market in years to come. Several new Chevrolet product
launches are on tap for 2009 including the Cruze, Malibu, Traverse and
Camaro.

Chevrolet sales in Europe
also contributed to the brand's solid 2008 results, growing 11 percent
and breaking though the 500,000 vehicle mark for the first time.
Chevrolet is also performing strongly in emerging markets. It remains
the top-selling import brand in Russia. In addition, Opel sales in
Russia increased by 49 percent, while Saab increased 68 percent in 2008
compared with a year ago. The Opel Insignia won the prestigious
European Car of the Year Award - a first for Opel in 22 years and a
strong statement about GM's global midsize vehicle architecture.
Important launches for GM this year in the region include the Opel
Insignia Sports Tourer and Astra; Chevrolet Cruze; and the new Saab
9-3X and 9-5.

A highlight of GM's North America
regional performance was the all-new Chevrolet Malibu sedan that
achieved the highest percentage gain in annual sales volume (39
percent) of any of the top-20 selling vehicles in the United States.
While GM's total North America vehicle sales volume in 2008 declined 21
percent, there were a number of bright future product opportunities
highlighted at the North America International Auto Show in Detroit
this month. They included the new Chevrolet Camaro and
second-generation Equinox; the second-generation Cadillac SRX and
all-new CTS sport wagon; and the Buick LaCrosse.

Sales of Cadillac
outside of the United States were supported by strong growth of the
brand in Latin America, Africa and Middle East (up 22 percent).

Note: Global sales results are based on preliminary numbers reported and have been rounded.

General

offers better environmental stability for the finished headliner
assembly, improved acoustics and up to 40% weight savings over
competing headliner composite board materials. This breakthrough
innovation has paved the way for StrataLiner NXT(TM), which offers the same performance enhancements in a smaller package space. StrataLiner NXT(TM)
now offers a cost competitive alternative to polypropylene and
fiberglass composites at equal thickness, with improved forming
characteristics and with the superior acoustical performance
polyurethane solutions can provide. Together, StrataLiner NET(TM) and StrataLiner NXT(TM) provide designers new opportunities to value engineer the entire overhead system."

This headliner innovation is made possible through Woodbridge's recently announced GreenLite(TM) low mass technology. The GreenLite(TM) environmental
initiative, offers the same quality and performance for automotive
polyurethane foam components, at a substantially lower weight. This
technology responds to the industry's most pressing challenges,
including improved fuel efficiency. GreenLite(TM) low mass solutions
are all about weight savings that will not sacrifice product
performance, while offering customers cost savings opportunities in a
range of applications.

The Stratas(TM) component portfolio offers
several headliner system advantages including; significant weight
reduction, thinner cross-sections, superior design flexibility,
enhanced surface quality, improved acoustics, better side curtain air
bag compatibility and system cost savings. Woodbridge offers the Stratas(TM)

restructuring efforts included in the viability plan submitted to the
federal government last month, and announced more conservative industry
volume planning assumptions to ensure the viability plan is successful
even in the most challenging of markets.
The
updates were part of a comprehensive review of GM’s global business by
Rick Wagoner, chairman and CEO; Fritz Henderson, president and COO; and
Ray Young, executive vice president and CFO; at the Deutsche Bank 2009
Auto Analysts Conference in Detroit.

Their remarks
focused on the global financial, operational and product portfolio
actions GM is taking to restructure its business for greater
competitiveness and long-term viability. View presentation slides

“We
are on track to accomplish the requirements of the viability plan,”
Wagoner stated. “We know we have a lot of work in front of us, but we
are already working closely with many key stakeholders. The GM team is
100 percent dedicated to achieving the goals of our plan.”

In
light of the ongoing uncertainty of global market conditions, GM is
adopting more conservative industry volume assumptions than those
presented to Congress. For liquidity and viability planning purposes,
GM will assume 2009 U.S. total vehicle sales of 10.5 million units and
global sales of 57.5 million units. The initial plan included a
downside scenario of 10.5 million U.S. sales in 2009, with a baseline
scenario of 12 million sales. GM also revised downwards its assessment
of global industry volume assumptions for 2010-2012 for liquidity
planning purposes.

GM said that lowering the
assumptions on U.S. and global industry volumes will drive tougher
operational decisions that will result in a more robust viability plan,
one that better positions the company for long-term growth as the auto
market recovers. GM said it would continue to refine its plan in
response to changing market conditions.

GM’s detailed Restructuring Plan for Long-Term Viability
was presented to Congress on December 2, 2008, and it formed the basis
for the loan agreement with the U.S. Treasury signed on December 19. An
updated plan is due to the Presidential designee on February 17, 2009.

About GM

(NYSE: BWA) is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract to establish
a joint venture with China Automobile Development United Investment Co., Ltd.
(CDUI), a company owned by 12 leading Chinese automakers including FAW, SAIC,
Dongfeng, Chery, ChangAn, Brilliance, Guangzhu, Changfeng, JAC, Geely,
Polarsun and Great Wall Motor. Known as BorgWarner United Transmission Systems
Co., Ltd., the joint venture will be located in <location>Dalian, China</location>, and will
produce various dual clutch transmission modules beginning in 2011.
BorgWarner holds a 66% majority ownership in the joint venture.

'By leading the dual clutch transmission expansion into the Chinese
marketplace, this joint venture will establish BorgWarner's DualTronic(R)
technology as the preferred automatic transmission solution in <location>China</location>,' said
<person>Tim Manganello</person>, BorgWarner Chairman and CEO. 'BorgWarner is honored to join
CDUI and its 12 Chinese OEM partners in bringing the benefits of DualTronic(R)

Since BorgWarner's DualTronic(R) technology is based on a manual
transmission architecture, it is especially attractive in <location>China</location>, where OEMs
have a solid manual transmission infrastructure. The joint venture will allow
Chinese OEMs to make the technological leap to world-leading dual clutch
transmissions quickly and cost effectively. BorgWarner's modular DualTronic(R)
technology can be tuned to meet the full range of vehicles manufactured by its
Chinese OEM partners.

A leader in the globalization of dual-clutch transmission technology for
over ten years, BorgWarner's family of DualTronic(R) technologies combines the
efficiency of a manual gearbox with the functionality of a fully automatic
transmission, delivering seamless powerflow, improved fuel efficiency and a
fun-to-drive experience. Customers include VW, Audi, Bugatti, SAIC, Nissan and
GETRAG PowerShift(R) dual-clutch transmission programs supporting global
automakers including BMW, Ford and Mitsubishi. In addition, BorgWarner is
currently working on over 25 programs with transmission and vehicle makers
around the world and expects applications of its dual-clutch technology to
expand four-fold to 3 million dual-clutch transmissions by 2014.

panel.

An Eco-Icon
The first-generation Prius entered the market
in 1997 as the world's first mass-produced hybrid. The name Prius, "to go
before" in Latin, became symbolic of a car that was launched even before
environmental awareness had become a mainstream social issue.

From the
beginning, Toyota's full-hybrid system was developed in-house and has become a
driving force behind advanced vehicle technology. The company's exclusive Hybrid
Synergy Drive System was introduced in 2004 on the second-generation Prius. Since
then, more than 670,000 have been sold in the U.S.

In designing the new,
third-generation Prius, Toyota engineers combined a careful refinement of existing
systems with an aggressive measure of new technology necessary for the future
of automobiles.

Fuel Economy and Environmental Performance
The
new Prius will be built using processes that reduce pollution in every stage of
vehicle life, from production and driving, through to disposal.

The third-generation
Prius extends its record of continuous improvement in fuel economy. The first-generation
Prius, which was rated 41 EPA combined mpg, was replaced by the current model,
which is EPA rated at 46 mpg, combined city/highway. Using a combination of technologies,
fuel efficiency was increased to an estimated 50 miles per gallon for the new
Prius.

A larger and more powerful 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle, four-cylinder
engine will power the new Prius. Contrary to conventional wisdom, the larger engine
actually helps improve highway mileage. By making more torque, the new engine
can run at lower average rpm on the highway. When operating at lower rpm, the
new engine uses less fuel. Mileage is especially improved in cold-start conditions
and at higher speeds.

Use of an electric water pump and a new exhaust gas
recirculation (EGR) system also contribute to the engine's efficiency. The 1.8-liter
Prius engine is the first Toyota power plant that requires no belts under the
hood for better fuel economy and less potential maintenance.

A multi-information
display panel that monitors fuel and energy consumption is standard. It provides
feedback on the Prius' efficiency using three different displays to help the driver
acquire economical driving habits.

Unlike most other hybrid vehicles available,
Prius has been a "full" hybrid since introduction. This allows it to
run on engine alone, battery alone, or a combination of both. The system blends
the best of parallel hybrid and series hybrid designs to achieve the ability to
operate on the electric mode alone, and to charge the batteries while the car
is running.

The patented Hybrid Synergy Drive system in the 2010 Prius
is 90 percent newly-developed with significant improvements over previous models.

• The transaxle is lighter in weight and reduces torque losses by
as much as 20 percent compared to the previous model.
• The inverter,
which converts direct current to alternating current, has a new direct cooling
system to reduce size and weight.
• Taken together, the inverter, motor
and transaxle are smaller and 20 percent lighter.
• A newly developed
electronically controlled regenerative braking system has been adopted, with control
logic optimized to enhance regeneration.

The new Prius will offer three
alternative driving modes. EV-Drive Mode allows driving on battery power alone
at low speeds for about a mile, if conditions permit. There is also a Power Mode,
which increases sensitivity to throttle input for a sportier feel, and an Eco
Mode, which helps the driver achieve their best mileage.

Cutting Edge
Styling
In designing the new Prius, aerodynamic performance was an important
factor. The goal was to create a beautiful silhouette, while not compromising
function. Designers preserved the dynamic triangle form of the current model--instantly
recognizable as a Prius--but made alterations to the overall profile, pillar position
and angle. The front pillar, extended forward, helps refine the performance-focusing,
shaped form.

The overall height of the Prius is the same, but the roof
profile is altered by moving the top of the roof 3.9 inches to the rear. This
emphasizes the wedge shape, and also allows for enhanced rear headroom and improved
aerodynamics.

The design of the new Prius' front and rear corners are sharp,
sporty and aerodynamic. Strong side character lines, rising from front to rear,
define the glazed geometric shape. Viewed from the rear, wider rear treads provide
a solid, firmly rooted stance.

Dimensionally, the new Prius has the same
wheelbase as the current generation. Overall length is slightly increased by 0.6
inches, in part by moving the front cowl forward.

World's Lowest Cd
The
new Prius received more wind tunnel hours of testing than any other Toyota in
history, resulting in the cleanest aerodynamic profile of any mass-produced vehicle
in the world. By focusing on the shape of the body, underfloor, wheelhouse liner
and shape of the wheels, the designers of the new Prius were able to reduce the
coefficient of drag (Cd) value to 0.25, compared to 0.26 for the previous model.
The airflow under the car was studied extensively. Engineers made changes to the
shape of the fender liner, front surface of the underfloor, and added a fin at
the rear floor cover to increase linear stability.

Advanced Equipment
For a New Era
An available sliding glass moonroof is packaged with solar
panels, located over the rear seating area, that power a new ventilation system.
This solar powered ventilation system uses an electrically powered air circulation
fan that does not require engine assist. The system prevents the interior air
temperature from rising while the vehicle is parked, making the cool-down time
shorter when the driver returns to the vehicle, thus reducing the use of air conditioning.

The remote air-conditioning system is the first system in the world to
function on battery-power alone and that can be remotely operated, so the driver
can adjust the interior temperature for comfort before getting in the car.

Reducing
the vehicle's power consumption, available LED (light emitting diode) lamps are
used for low beams and also in the tail and stop lamps. Air conditioning, a major
energy drain, has been re-engineered to increase efficiency and cool-down performance.
In addition, an exhaust heat recirculation system reduces heat waste by warming
engine coolant during cold startup, for improved performance. It also heats up
the passenger cabin more efficiently.

Enhanced Vehicle Performance
The
next-generation Prius is built on a new platform, which enables improved handling
stability, quieter operation, and collision safety. The suspension consists of
front struts and a rear intermediate beam design, as before, but handling stability
is advanced by improving the stabilizer layout, higher caster angle and tuning
the bushing characteristics. Disc brakes are now used on all four corners, replacing
the front disc/rear drum brakes in the current model.

Weight was saved through
use of aluminum in the hood, rear hatch, front suspension axle and brake caliper
and super high-tensile steel in the rocker inner, center pillar, and roof reinforcement.
To meet customer expectations for everyday performance, zero-to-60 acceleration
has been improved to 9.8 seconds, more than a second faster, in internal testing.

Better-performing
sound insulation, working with improved vibration damping, has been installed
in various locations to reduce road noise.

Functional Interior Is Bigger
on the Inside
Proving that small changes add up to big gains, the cargo
area of the new Prius was expanded 0.4 inches in length and 2.2 inches in width
by using a new and an improved layout of the battery cooling unit.

Rear
seat legroom is enhanced by a new space-saving contoured front-seat design.

Viewed
from the cockpit, the center cluster smoothly flows from the instrument panel
to the console. Handy storage space has been added under the shift lever by taking
advantage of the shift-by-wire system. Simple, fin-type air vents are consistent
with the cabin's efficient appearance. Judicious use of silver accents adds a
finished, technical feel.

Touch sensors on the steering wheel switches
are designed to reduce driver eye movement for better concentration on the road.
When the driver touches the audio or info switch located on the steering wheel,
a duplicate image is displayed on the instrument panel, directly in front of the
driver. This system, called Touch Tracer, is the first system in the world to
allow steering wheel controls to read out on the instrument panel.

The
ECO indicator on the Multi-Informational Display (MID) provides driver feedback
for lower fuel consumption.

In pursuit of developing various advanced technologies
aimed at realizing sustainable mobility, Toyota will use plant-derived, carbon-neutral
plastics in the 2010 Prius. The newly-developed plastics, known as "ecological
plastic," will be used in the seat cushion foam, cowl side trim, inner and
outer scuff plates, and deck trim cover. Ecological plastic emits less CO2 during
a product lifecycle (from manufacturing to disposal) than plastic made solely
from petroleum; it also helps reduce petroleum use.

Safety Enhancements
The
new Prius was designed to comply with class-top level collision safety performance
in each global region of sale, and to accommodate increasingly strict safety requirements
in the future.

In addition to advanced driver and front passenger Supplemental
Restraint System (SRS) airbags front and rear side curtain airbags, driver and
passenger seat-mounted side airbags and driver's knee airbag are standard equipment.

Active headrests are used in both front seats to reduce the possibility
of whiplash in a collision. Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution
(EBD), Brake Assist (BA), electronic traction control (TRAC) and Vehicle Stability
Control (VSC) are included with Toyota's standard Star Safety System.

Dynamic
Radar Cruise Control system, using advanced millimeter wave radar, is an available
option. The system also enables Lane Keep Assist, which helps the driver stay
safely within the lane, and the Pre-Collision System, which retracts seatbelts
and applies the brakes in certain conditions when a crash is unavoidable.

Next-generation
Intelligent Parking Assist features simplified settings to help guide the car
into parking spaces.

A backup monitor, which provides a view of rear obstacles
when reverse is engaged, is available with an optional voice-activated navigation
system. Safety Connect, Toyota's first safety and security service, includes automatic
collision notification, stolen vehicle locator and an SOS call button. Safety
Connect will be available a few months after launch.
The development of the
Prius has required applications for over 1,000 patents filed across the world,
of which 292 are U.S. applications.

Pricing for the 2010 Prius will be
announced shortly before it goes on sale late spring.

2010 PRUIS PRELIMINARY

will open a new automotive battery lab - the largest of its kind - in
the United States to further strengthen design, development and testing
capabilities

A partnership with the University of Michigan has been established to develop a specialized curriculum for battery engineers

The Chevrolet Volt,
an extended-range electric vehicle that delivers up to 40 miles of
gasoline- and emissions-free electric driving, will use battery packs
manufactured in the United States by General Motors, Chairman and CEO
Rick Wagoner announced at the North American International Auto Show.
GM
will establish the first lithium-ion battery pack manufacturing
facility operated by a major automaker in the United States to produce
the Volt's battery pack system. It consists of lithium-ion cells that
are grouped into modules, along with other key battery components.

The
plant will be located in Michigan, subject to negotiations with state
and local government authorities. Facility preparation will begin in
early 2009, with production tooling to be installed mid-year and output
starting in 2010.

"The design, development and production of
advanced batteries must be a core competency for GM, and we've been
rapidly building our capability and resources to support this
direction," Wagoner said. "This is a further demonstration of our
commitment to the electrification of the automobile and to the
Chevrolet Volt - a commitment that now totals more than $1 billion."

The Volt's lithium-ion battery cells will be supplied by LG Chem. Compact
Power Inc., a subsidiary of LG Chem based in Troy, Mich., will build
battery packs for Volt prototype vehicles until GM's battery facility
is operational. A joint engineering contract with Compact Power and LG
Chem also has been signed to further expedite the development of the
Volt's lithium-ion battery technology.

GM has been testing
battery packs for the Volt, powered by cells from LG Chem, for the past
16 months. These tests - both on the road and in the lab - have
provided invaluable insight into lithium-ion battery technology.

"Our selection of LG Chem was based on performance, production
readiness, efficiency, durability and LG Chem's demonstrated track
record of exceptional quality," Wagoner said. "At GM, we believe the
technical strengths of LG Chem, combined with our own engineering and
manufacturing expertise, will help position us as a key player in the
development of electrically driven vehicles today and in the future."

GM's advanced battery strategy

"Our
announcements are part of a comprehensive advanced battery strategy for
GM that is expanding along two pathways," Wagoner said. "First, we're
identifying core competencies - such as battery research, development
and assembly - and integrating these fundamentals into our product
development and manufacturing operations. We believe this will become a
competitive advantage for GM, and will be critical to GM's long-term
success. Secondly, we're building a roster of battery suppliers and
academic experts from around the globe, and leveraging their
specialized abilities to develop battery chemistries and cell designs,
as well as future automotive battery engineers."

Key elements of GM's advanced battery strategy include:

Opening
the largest automotive battery lab in the United States (31,000 square
feet / 3,251 square meters) that will be capable of testing new energy
storage system technologies, as well as lithium-ion and nickel-metal
hydride batteries, to accelerate the domestic development of advanced
battery technology and lead GM's network of existing labs in Honeoye
Falls, N.Y.; Warren, Mich.; Torrance, Calif.; and Mainz-Kastel,
Germany. This new battery lab will be located in Michigan, subject to
final negotiations with state and local authorities

Continuing
to ramp-up "in-house" battery-development capability by increasing the
staff of GM's global hybrid, electric vehicle and advanced battery
organization to several hundred engineers in 2009, including more than
200 currently dedicated to advanced battery technologies

Joining
with the University of Michigan to create a new automotive advanced
battery lab in Ann Arbor, Mich., and a specialized curriculum within U
of M's College of Engineering to develop automotive battery engineers

Continuing
to grow and establish a robust lineup of battery suppliers for cell
development and manufacturing and battery integration expertise, with
companies such as LG Chem, A123Systems, Hitachi Ltd., Compact Power and
Cobasys

Collaborating with government organizations and
industry consortia, such as the U.S. Department of Energy; United
States Council for Automotive Research; the United States Advanced
Battery Consortium LLC; and Electric Power Research Institute to
advance the development of hybrids, plug-ins and electric vehicles, and
related electric infrastructure to support those vehicles

Energy
alternatives and advanced technologies that reduce dependency on
petroleum, improve fuel economy and reduce emissions are the keys to
developing sustainable transportation. GM is pursuing several options
to best meet the varied needs of customers around the world - from
advanced gasoline, diesel and biofuel technology to electrically
assisted vehicles such as hybrids, plug-in hybrids and - ultimately
-electrically driven extended-range electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel
cell vehicles. GM believes that electrically driven vehicles, based on
battery and hydrogen fuel cell technology, offer the best long-term
solution for providing sustainable personal transportation.

In
June 2008, the GM Board of Directors approved the Chevrolet Volt
program and Voltec™ propulsion system for production starting in late
2010. For trips of up to 40 miles, the Volt is powered by electricity
from the grid and stored in its lithium-ion battery pack. Beyond 40
miles, a small engine-generator creates additional electricity to
extend the range of the Volt several hundred additional miles. The
development of the Volt's 16 kWh T-shaped lithium-ion battery, which is
roughly 6 feet long (1.8 meters) and weighs nearly 400 pounds (181 kg),
is key to the Volt's success. The production-intent design was revealed
in September 2008.

General Motors Corp. (NYSE: GM), the
world's largest automaker, has been the annual global industry sales
leader for 77 years. Founded in 1908, GM today employs about 252,000
people around the world. With global headquarters in Detroit, GM
manufactures its cars and trucks in 34 countries. In 2007, nearly 9.37
million GM cars and trucks were sold globally under the following
brands: Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, GM Daewoo, Holden, HUMMER,
Opel, Pontiac, Saab, Saturn, Vauxhall and Wuling. GM's OnStar
subsidiary is the industry leader in vehicle safety, security and
information services. Chrysler ENVI inspires a personal mobility revolution,
delivering clean, environmentally responsible, no-compromise electric
vehicles

Chrysler 200C EV concept and Jeep® Patriot EV expand potential electric-drive vehicle offerings

Five distinct vehicle platforms demonstrate extent of electric-drive offerings from Chrysler LLC

First Chrysler electric vehicle to be produced in 2010; three additional models in production by 2013

With its rapidly growing portfolio of ENVI-powered electric
vehicles, Chrysler LLC is inspiring a personal mobility revolution,
creating a new generation of responsible, no-compromise Chrysler, Dodge
and Jeep® vehicles for consumers who care about the planet’s future and
want to take care of it.

Chrysler recently introduced three advanced electric-vehicle
prototypes, while expressing its intention to broaden its all-electric
and Range-extended Electric Vehicle portfolio across its vehicle lineup.

At the 2009 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the

the Jeep Wrangler Unlimited EV. A Range-extended Electric Vehicle, the
Wrangler Unlimited EV provides a glimpse into the future of a “Go
Anywhere, Do Anything” vehicle from the iconic Jeep brand.

Chrysler rounds out its current electric-vehicle portfolio with the
Chrysler Town & Country EV - the perfect fuel-efficient family
vehicle. It, too, delivers 40 miles of all-electric range - 400 total -
without sacrificing the significant convenience and utility of
Chrysler’s award-winning minivan.

Chrysler ENVI

The development of Chrysler’s Electric Vehicles and Range-extended
Electric Vehicles is led by ENVI - representing the first four letters
of “environmental” - the Company’s in-house organization that was
formed in late 2007 to focus on electric-drive production vehicles and
related advanced technologies.

ENVI is an empowered, cross-functional, nimble team that can move
quickly and has access to the vast resources within Chrysler to allow
rapid proliferation of electric-drive vehicles.

“ENVI is quickly bringing electric vehicles to market, completely
changing the game for our customers,” said Lou Rhodes, President -
ENVI, and Vice President - Advance Vehicle Engineering. “Chrysler’s
ENVI-powered electric vehicles will allow consumers to move away from
their reliance on fuel stations and traditional maintenance, and
instead enjoy a new, more socially responsible level of performance -
instant torque, quietness, smoothness and efficiency - that today’s
internal combustion engine vehicles can’t offer.”

“ENVI harnesses the promise of electric vehicles, but takes it
further,” Rhodes added. “By working with electric utilities and with
battery manufacturers, we are developing a seamless approach to
electric-vehicle ownership - an approach that will soon allow consumers
to move brilliantly forward in an environmentally friendly, intuitive
mobility package.”

ENVI’s Electric Vehicles and Range-extended Electric Vehicles will
significantly reduce dependency on fossil fuels and CO2 emissions.

Chrysler will apply its ENVI electric-drive technology to each of
its brands, and to its front-wheel-drive, rear-wheel-drive and
body-on-frame four-wheel-drive platforms.

“As demonstrated with our lineup of ENVI electric-vehicle
prototypes, Chrysler is quickly moving toward using electricity to
power the bold performance of Dodge vehicles, the versatility and
capability of Jeep vehicles, and the comfort and functionality of
Chrysler vehicles,” Rhodes said.

Chrysler’s All-electric Vehicle Technology

Chrysler’s ENVI-powered Electric Vehicles utilize just three primary
components. These include an electric motor to drive the wheels, an
advanced lithium-ion battery system to power the electric-drive motor,
and a controller that manages energy flow.

“ENVI Electric Vehicle technology will provide customers with
vehicles that achieve zero tailpipe emissions and a 150 to 200 mile
driving range,” Rhodes said. “This far exceeds most Americans’ daily
commutes, as nearly 80 percent of Americans drive less than 40 miles
per day, or 14,000 miles per year.”

“Chrysler’s ENVI-powered Electric Vehicles provide the opportunity
to fulfill social responsibility, reduce dependency on foreign oil, and
eliminate monthly gasoline bills, while delivering performance and
utility that our customers desire,” Rhodes added.

The result of ENVI’s Electric Vehicle technology is a completely new
driving experience that delivers instantaneous acceleration and
responsiveness. The electric-drive technology enables a new standard of
quiet, smooth and efficient operation.

Recharging a Chrysler all-electric vehicle is a simple one-step
process: plugging into a standard 110-volt household outlet. The
recharge time can be cut in half by using a typical 220-volt household
appliance power outlet.

Chrysler’s Range-extended Electric Vehicle Technology

The Range-extended Electric Vehicle combines the electric-drive
components of the ENVI Electric Vehicle with a small gasoline engine
and integrated electric generator to produce additional energy to power
the electric-drive system when needed. This provides the positive
attributes of an Electric Vehicle with the driving range equivalent to
today’s gasoline-powered vehicles - with no compromises in performance.

ENVI’s Range-extended Electric Vehicles can travel 40 miles on
battery power alone using zero gasoline and producing zero tailpipe
emissions. A small internal combustion engine and integrated generator
produces electricity that extends the range to 400 miles.

Range-extended Electric Vehicles offer environmental responsibility without giving up driving range, comfort or utility.

The recharging process and time for a Range-extended Electric
Vehicle is the same as an all-electric vehicle, using either a 110-volt
or 220-volt outlet.
'

' 2010 CADILLAC SRX: A DISTINCTIVE ALTERNATIVE FOR TODAY’S LUXURY CROSSOVER CONSUMER'

'

Cadillac unveiled the next-generation 2010 SRX Crossover
today, featuring a completely new design and more-efficient, high-technology
engine choices. The new SRX is a mid-size luxury crossover coming to the North
American International Auto Show next week.

“The all-new SRX is a fresh and compelling crossover aimed squarely at the
priorities of luxury buyers,” said Mark McNabb, North
America vice president, Cadillac/Premium Channel. “With new technologies
for increased efficiency and safety, the redesigned 2010 SRX Crossover focuses
on both the emotional and pragmatic sides of the luxury consumer.”

The 2010 SRX is designed for efficient performance, including the choice of
two high-tech six-cylinder engines that are new to Cadillac – the
smallest-displacement engines it offers in North America.
A new, 3.0L direct injected V-6 engine is standard and a new, 2.8L turbocharged
V-6 is optional. Both engines employ technology that helps produce strong
performance that is typical of larger-displacement engines. Direct injection
enables a 25-percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. Fuel economy in the
mid-20s on the highway is expected, but testing isn’t complete.

Performance and safety are enhanced by an available all-wheel-drive (AWD)
system that is designed to optimize vehicle handling and stability in all
driving conditions. The AWD system includes an advanced electronic limited-slip
differential (eLSD) that distributes torque as needed from side to side along
the rear axle, as well as from the front to rear axle. The pre-emptive,
active-on-demand system provides an extra measure of capability in wet or icy
conditions.

The 2010 SRX rides on a wide track that was designed to deliver a nimble,
responsive driving experience. It seats five, with generous occupant and cargo
room, and can tow up to 3,500 pounds (1,587 kg).

Distinctive design and craftsmanship

“Cadillac is known for bold design. The 2010 SRX Crossover builds on that
reputation,” said Clay Dean, Cadillac global design director. “As with the 2008
CTS, we advanced our Art and Science design to create a crossover for
style-conscious customers. The exterior features a dramatic diving gesture on
the body side to impart the feeling of movement, even at rest.”

A multi-piece shield grille and Cadillac’s iconic vertical headlamps – with
light pipe technology and available adaptive forward lighting – are the face of
the SRX. They blend into a tightly wrapped, sweeping body that tapers downward
at the rear, giving the vehicle a sporty profile, Dean said.

The SRX features a wide stance, minimal overhang and wheels pushed to
corners. Eighteen-inch wheels are standard and 20-inch wheels are offered. A
bold accent line dives across the body side and culminates at a chrome front
fender vent that incorporates a side marker lamp. An integrated spoiler on the
rearward edge of the roof extends the sleek lines and improves aerodynamics.

“Inside the new SRX, technical precision blends with old-world
craftsmanship,” Dean said. “Hand-cut-and-sewn coverings on the instrument panel
and ambient lighting details convey a finely tailored cabin.”

An integrated center stack houses controls for climate and audio systems,
while the navigation system rises from the center of the instrument panel. A
signature example of the SRX’s attention to detail is the Cadillac script logos
in the front door sill plates that illuminate when the doors are opened.

Advanced technology and entertainment systems

The 2010 SRX features numerous advanced electronic systems. Highlights
include a “pop-up” navigation screen with three-dimensional imaging; adaptive
forward lighting that swivels the headlamps in synch with vehicle steering;
power liftgate with adjustable height setting; integrated hard disc drive for
audio storage and a dual-screen system for rear entertainment.

Bluetooth compatibility is standard, as is OnStar’s turn-by-turn navigation
service for buyers who do not select the car’s navigation system option.

Efficient performance

The SRX is powered by a new, fuel-efficient direct injected 3.0L V-6 that
delivers an estimated 260 horsepower (193 kW) and is paired with a six-speed
automatic transmission. Direct injection results in more power, better fuel
economy and lower emissions, all will a smaller-displacement package. As a
result, the new V-6 engine is expected to raise the SRX’s standard power rating
by 5 horsepower, while achieving an estimated 1 0-15-percent fuel economy
improvement.

The 3.0L direct injection V-6 is a smaller-displacement version of the 3.6L,
direct injection engine featured in the CTS sport sedan and named one of the
world’s 10 Best Engines for 2009 by Ward’s Automotive. Along with direct injection
technology, the 3.0L engine employs variable valve timing to optimize power and
fuel efficiency and reduce emissions.

The Hydra-Matic 6T70 six-speed automatic transmission helps save fuel by
lowering the engine’s rpm at constant highway speeds, while manual shift
control enables greater driver interaction when desired. The new SRX includes a
driver-selectable “eco mode” that alters transmission shift points to maximize
fuel economy.

“The 2010 SRX will deliver excellent, balanced driving dynamics in all types
of weather,” said Bob Reuter, global vehicle chief engineer. “The
all-wheel-drive system with electronic limited slip effectively transfers
torque not only from front to rear, but also along the rear axle. This system
sets a new benchmark for all all-wheel-drive systems, giving the driver control
and confidence on any road surface.”

Traction control is taken a step further on AWD models with the rear eLSD.
In icy or wet conditions, the system can transfer up to 100 percent of torque
to the wheel that has more grip. The eLSD also gives the driver enhanced
control when cornering hard or completing a high-speed maneuver, such as a lane
change, by momentarily applying more or less torque to either of the wheels to
help the rear of the vehicle more closely follow the direction of the front
wheels.

The suspension includes a real-time damping system in conjunction with AWD
that adjusts shock damping rates in response to road conditions for a smooth
ride quality.

Enhanced safety

SRX’s safety features are designed to protect occupants before, during and
after a crash. A strong body structure and chassis that absorbs crash energy is
complemented by the use of martensitic steel in the fully enclosed rocker
sections. Martensitic steel is one of the strongest available and its use in
the rockers helps protect against intrusion during a side-impact crash, while
also maintaining the structure during front and rear crashes.

Additional safety features include standard head curtain side air bags,
standard front seat-mounted pelvic/thorax side air bags, front safety belts
with dual pretensioners and load limiters, rollover mitigation sensors, a pedal
release system, trailer stability assist and OnStar.

The SRX was also designed to meet European pedestrian protection standards; and
the front bumper is positioned for greater compatibility with car bumpers.

Production begins in the second quarter of 2009, with dealer availability
shortly thereafter.

Volvo CE will incur an estimated restructuring cost of approximately 45 MUSD, which will be recorded in the third quarter of 2008.

The decision to consolidate the industrial operations for road machinery in North America to Shippensburg was taken to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the total road machinery business and will also reduce our exposure to exchange rate fluctuations within North America. The move, which will affect 500 employees in total, will take place in various phases, concluding no later than 2010.

The adjustment measures to be adopted for employees represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers will be the subject of discussions to be held with the Union. The central parts warehouse currently located in Goderich will be relocated to the Volvo Parts warehouse in Columbus, Ohio, USA.

A comprehensive Human Resources plan will be developed in collaboration with the local union and government agencies. This plan will include, but will not be limited to, training programs, counseling support and help in the search for new employment.

Mercedes-Benz has developed an innovative system that automatically adapts headlamp range to the distance of vehicles ahead or to oncoming vehicles. This means drivers will benefit from optimum headlamp range at all times to recognize other road users, pedestrians or danger spots more easily and more quickly. The adaptive high-beam assistant will be available from spring 2009.

Unlike conventional systems that simply switch between dipped and main beam, the new Mercedes-Benz technology is adaptive, adjusting light yield in accordance with prevailing traffic situations. Dipped beam range can therefore be increased from around 65 metres to as much as 300 metres without dazzling other motorists. If the system detects oncoming traffic or vehicles ahead it continuously adjusts headlamp range so that the headlamp cone falls in front of other road users. The high-beam assistant also takes steering angle into account, so that headlamps are dipped appropriately on tight corners. On empty and open roads, the system gently switches to high beam.

Practical tests have shown that the adaptive high-beam assistant significantly enhances the safety of motorists when driving in the dark. Despite oncoming traffic, pedestrian dummies positioned at the edge of the road were recognized at a distance of around 260 metres -- approximately 150 metres earlier than with conventional dipped beam lighting. The new Mercedes-Benz assistant therefore offers a more than two-fold safety bonus.

In addition, the system helps relieve the burden on car drivers because it is no longer necessary to operate the lever on the steering column. Once activated, the adaptive high-beam assistant will automatically provide the optimum headlamp range so full concentration can be given to driving.

According to the latest studies, the main beam is switched on for approximately just eight percent of journeys at night on average.

Every 40 milliseconds the headlamps receive new data for headlamp adjustment The brand new Mercedes-Benz technology is based on a camera positioned inside the front windshield that monitors the traffic situation in front of the car. Thanks to an intelligent image processing algorithm, the camera can recognize other vehicles and determine their distance. The range of the bi-xenon headlamps can then be varied and continuously adapted to the distance of the car ahead or to oncoming vehicles. The system has lightning quick reaction times, transmitting new data to the headlamps every 40 milliseconds. The adaptive high-beam assistant functions at speeds above 55 km/h and is fully automatic from the time the driver switches the rotary light switch to “Auto” and the multifunction control lever on the steering column to high beam. As a result, Mercedes-Benz models from spring 2009 will benefit from the world’s most efficient headlamp technology.

'
